You should probably use a 10w-30 motor oil as it is the most compatible weight of motor oil for most engines.

there is much debate on what type of oil can be used in motorcycles. Because the clutch uses the motor oil as a lubricant, many people say that you need special oil for the clutch. I personally run regualr car oil in my bike, but it is a $2,000 salvage bike that I don't care about.

Use 20-W-50 oil from a brand you are comfortable with. Oil is a conflicted topic among thise who maintain vehicles, many people have very particular preferences. You do not need the Harley Davidson brand oil for you bike though.

You can use any oil in your Harley that meets the specifications of the manufacturer of your motorcycle. Harley does sell an oil specific for their motorcycles. Check your users manual or contact a dealer or mechanic directly for the information you need for your Harley.

Harley Davidson would prefer you use only Harley Davidson oil but you can also use a good quality motorcycle oil such as Amsoil, Rotella, Mobil or Kendall. The owner has to make sure the oil meets the factory specifications for the particular Harley Davidson motorcyle that the person has.

Harley oil is not bad oil,it's just that there are alot better choices. Personally I run either Mobil 1 or Amsoil, have used both and much better service than the Harley oil  add a comment

Harley owners have advised using the following type of bike oil: Amsoil, Mobil1 20-50, and V-Twin specific synthetic 20-50 (Bel Ray, H-D Syn3, Royal Purple Max Cycle).
