D and C, also called dilation and curettage is a surgery performed after a miscarriage. This procedure is used to open up the cervix and removal of leftovers of miscarriage. Special surgical instruments are used to perform this surgery.

You'll undergo anesthesia and the procedure will take about 20-30 minutes. After the D&C you may experience cramping and bleeding. The bleeding may occur immediately or a few days after the procedure. Some women pass clots during this phase. It is best to rest for 24-48 hours after the procedure.

I had a D&C and I had a lot of cramping accompanied with vaginal bleeding. You feel pretty tired, so you sleep alot, plenty of rest is required and sometimes they give you something for the pain or ask that you just take advil, ibuprofen, or tylenol.

A DNC is just where they scrap your insides clean after a miscarriage. You may feel some discomfort, but most people don't complain of much.
