You should discuss at length this with your physician. Gall bladder surgery is major surgery requiring general anesthetic. The recovery can vary, depending on your age, your general health and the type of surgical methods used. The only expectation of the surgery is that you won't have a gall bladder afterward. Expect two to six weeks recovery.

After I had my gall bladder removed, that same day the doctor asked me if I wanted to go home. I said no because I was in pain. My stomach area felt bloated and swollen. I had a lump on my stomach area for about a year. It finally went away.

During the gallbladder procedure you will be under anesthesia. The procedure will last a few hours and then be sent to recovery. After the surgery, you should allow your body at least one week for the initial recovery period. Some patients are able to return to work sooner, but plan to be out of work for at least one week.
