Personally I do not mind a short backswing. It gives more control. But if you want more backswing, increase your flexibility with exercises and make an effort to swing more. Take a practice swing where your left arm is parallel to the ground. This should give plenty of backswing.

Sometimes a short backswing is a good thing. Many golfers overswing and suffer loss on control. But if you want more backswing, work on increasing your flexibility with exercises.

Choke down slightly lower on the grip. This will reduce the length of the shaft and naturally shorten your backswing. Also, practice your swing in a position where you can fully see your shadow. Watching your shadow, slow down your swing and stop the backswing at the moment your shaft is parallel to the ground. Practice this repeatedly.

A short backswing normally comes from a lack of flexibility around the core area of the body. Flexibility can be improved by a program of stretching exercise, including yoga.

You can speed it up, but you have to be careful, as the faster the backswing, the better the chance that you are going to spray the ball. Short backswings don't get you that much distance, but accuracy is usually better.

Make sure you are fully extending your arms back and that you let your wrists bend. Having your wrists bend at the top swing will really help.

It is easy to lengthen your backspin. All you have to do it practice rotation of your midsection. Merely hold your club behind you and gradually swing your shoulders from side to side and soon you will see your swing lengthened.
