What can I do if I keep getting a no fixed disk present error when there is a disk present?

The disk drive could be broken. As your computer is booting press whatever function key is shown to enter the system BIOS and see if the drive is being recognized.

This can be an issue because of the poor connection with the disk. Try to disconnect and then connect the disk. Restart the machine and then check. If the issue still appears, the issue can be that the disk has gone bad. Disk Check should be performed. In Windows, it can be achieved through HDD Test in Bios.

There are some basic tests to do if you can't access a fixed hard drive. Easiest thing to do is to disconnect the plug and connect it again. If this doesn't helps try to reboot with a explicit mounting under linux and try again under windows.

You should first run disk diagnostics to ensure the physical integrity of the drive itself is still intact and functional. If this checks out or if the disk can still not be detected try checking that all power and data cables connected to the device are still intact and secure.
