You would do well not to argue with a policeman who is writing a ticket, particularly when it does not concern you. The individual named in the citation can dispute the matter in court himself.

You could go to court with that person and serve as a witness for the defense. That might help their case.

It is best not to interfere. If you feel you have something to add, do so politely. Otherwise, offer to be a witness for the cited individual.

If a ticket is erroneous in nature, you can challenge the ticket and its information in court. Most tickets will identify the process for appeal or court appearance. Have your facts straight, show documentation supporting your argument, and present it clearly to the commissioner or judge. If the officer fails to show or cannot respond well, you will likely win.

Appear in court on their behalf when they fight the ticket. If it is your ticket and the information on the ticket is incorrect you can refuse to sign it.

How would you know the policeman is writing someone the wrong ticket? Are you that person or is it someone else? In either case if you feel the officer is wrong try not to get into a confrontation with him because you will lose. Go to the precinct where he is stationed and ask for the seargeant in charge

Once you get a ticket, you can go to court to have a judge decide if the ticket was accurately given. You can't argue with the officer at the time.

You should do nothing. If a police officer gives a citation in error, the defendant has a chance to challenge the ticket in court and confront his accuser(s).

You should contact the police department and let them know that a police officer wrote someone the wrong ticket. Be sure to get the person's driver license's number as this may help the police track this person.
