First, have your dog examined by a vet to evaluate what stage your dog's hip pain is. If it is still within your ability to treat, there are a variety of products on the market which alleviate pain using aspirin and non-aspirin products, and glucosamine to restore the hips resiliency.

Try being conservative first and give your dog a supplement with chondroitin sulfate, MSM and glucosamine in it. This can help dogs just like it helps people.

There a prescription pain killer that can help, if needed, from your vet. Always make sure your dog has a comfortable, warm place to sleep and rest.

You might want to try Cosiquin, I believe it is an natural herb used with hip pain. But as always, talk to your vet.

Besides pain medication you can obtain from your veterinarian, try giving him an orthopedic bed. Keeping him in healthy weight will also help alleviate the stress on the hips. Aqua-therapy is worth trying if your dog will tolerate it. Provide short and light exercise sessions several times a day.

Try Glucosamine and Chondroitin just like a "human" would use to help relieve some of the pain along with a baby asprin to aid in reducing the inflammation.
