Hydrangeas flower on old growth. So be sure to not prune or trim the plant in order to leave old growth for the next blooming season. Also make sure that the location is not overly shady.

Getting the hydrangea a new and trustworthy soil . You should remove dead stems too and prune the plant to reduce its size.

Assuming that the hydrangea has been watered, fertilized and given some winter protection, the main reason for non-flowering is that the canes were cut too late in the previous winter. Flowers bloom on old wood so at the end of the season pile leaves or mulch on the roots, and if necessary wrap the plant loosely in plastic or newspaper.
