What can I do about my guinea pig's dry skin and fur?

He has a lot of flaking and scabbing.

You might want to change his bedding. If you're using cedar shavings, switch to a recycled paper bedding. Small animals tend to be irritated by the oils in cedar wood shavings. If a change in bedding doesn't help, or that isn't the problem, you might want to take him to your vet.

It sounds like a case of possibly lice infestation or severly dry skin possibly a combination of both the best thin you could do for it would be the vet.

This could be some kind of fungal infection or mites and requires immediate treatment. Take your pig to a qualified exotics vet (not an ordinary cat/dog vet, one who has specialised training and experience) for an exam. Only a trained vet can make the proper diagnosis and prescribe a course of treatment.

I would put some oil into his fur and cure the dry skin! This should replenish the natural oils that he is lacking!
