What has the edema been caused by? If you know this bit of information, then I suggest you avoid the cause. Then, elevate your foot on two pillows and apply ice packs. Do not apply ice directly on skin as it will damage healthy skin tissue. Notify physician for advice.

The treatment for edema in the feet varies depending on the cause. For example, edema due to accident or injury may include ice and rest, while edema due to circulatory conditions may require medication or dietary changes. Elevate it whenever possible.

The first question would be why you have the edema. If it is due to uncontrolled retention of fluids, you should take your diuretic. If it is for other reasons such a pregnancy or injury, you can try elevating it above the rest of your body.
