What can I do about a squealing toilet?

It sounds like you have an old ballcock. Those old brass models were notoriously noisy, especially if you had high house pressure. Replacement is long overdue! Remove the old ballcock and replace with one of those nice, water-conserving models available today.

There are a few things you can do: you can reseat the toilet (this all depends on where the squealing is coming from). You may also want to check the connections to the toilet and make sure they're all clean.

The toilet could be giving horrible noises because something may have got up struck up in the system of flow. First, you could try putting a bottle of acid into the toilet and keep the toilet door shut for about 5 to 6 hours and the problem could go away.
