An intermittent electrical short is caused by a loose connection of wires and also a wire that rubs outside of it's protective shielding. Look for blown fuses to identify area.

If a section of wiring harness is chafing or exposed, it may be making contact with a part of the car's frame, causing the short. It could also be a defective electrical component in the vehicle. First step to trouble shoot is to narrow it down to the offending system--should be blowing a fuse when it shorts.

First we have to check the Maxima's caretaker. It might have the same neurological problems. Seriously, causes of intermittent electrical short may arise from faulty electrical wirings. This means that, commonly, you may have open wire or wires that cause the short. Or, wet electrical units. But usually it's a simple loose electrical contact.
