You need to treat this carefully! Broken skin with fecal matter can become infected. Apply an antibiotic cream to the broken skin and then on top a diaper cream.

If the skin is only slightly broken you can use a castor oil and zinc cream to treat the diaper rash as it will sooth and promote healing as well as protect from further damage. However if the skin is severely broken then keeping the nappy off and allowing air to reach the skin will help it heal faster.

Avoid using medicated creams on his bottom where the skin is broken. Allow him to go without a diaper around the house when possible and make sure to cleanse the area thoroughly. I would also recommend that you see the pediatrician to ensure it doesn't become infected.
