The two phases or a colloidal system are: the dispersed phase (internal phase) and the continuous phase (dispersion medium). The dispersed phase has very small particles that are dispersed in another substance. It could be gas dispersed in liquid or in a solid, solid dispersed in a liquid, liquid in liquid or liquid in a solid.
