What are the symptoms of Sydenham's chorea?

Jerking of the hands, feet and face that is fast and uncoordinated are the main symptoms. Loss of fine and gross motor skills, fidgetiness, slow cognition and headache may also be present. Arthritis, carditis, erythema marginatum (pink rings on the trunk) and nodules under the skin may also occur.

Sydenhams chorea involves central nervous system following infection with particular strains of streptococci.The initial stage is followed by sore throat, that after few weeks may be followed by Rheumatic fever.Its one of the complication of acute rheumatic fever(ARF). In 20% cases chorea occurs only manifestation of ARF,& in many it is late feature of ARF involving Fever,Arthritis,Carditis .

The number one sympton of Sydenham's chorea is motor symptoms that affect all the limbs. THis included a disturbance in your gait when you walk and facial grimacing. You can also develope an obbessive compulsive disorder.

Some of the symptoms are spasms of the face, shoulders and hips. Weakness of the muscles, emotional instability, restlessness, coordination is poor, clumsiness, your voice changes and you have difficulty speaking.
