What are the steps to troubleshooting the fuel pump relay?

My car sputters and dies after it's been running for several minutes.

You should always test the voltage of the relay first to see if it is getting spark. If it is you will need to than test the exit connections to see if it is sending the correct signal to the fuel pump. You can find the exact voltage requirements in your owner guide or online.

Turn the key to the "run" position but dont start the engine. If the pump is loud, there is a chance that the fuel filter is restricted or the pump is getting tired.Always check the relay. You can jump the power to ground at relay block to activate the fuel pump.If the fuel pump doesn't run,the pump is bad and should be replaced.
