What are the steps of glycolysis?

+6

Answer by  gluestix (6)

There are three steps in glycolysis. The first step is phosporylation, in which ATP is used to turn glucose into fructose 1,6-diphosphate and ADP. Second, this six carbon fructose 1,6-diphosphate is turned into 2 glyceraldehyde phosphate molecules. In the last step, 8 ADP molecules are converted to ATP and the glyceraldehyde phosphate molecules are turned into 2 pyruvate molecules.

Glycolysis converts glucose to pyruvate in 10 steps. Step 1: Glucose to glucose 6-phosphate (G6P) 2: G6P to fructose 6-phosphate 3: fructose 6-phosphate to β-D-Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate 4: β-D-Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate to dihydroxyacetone phosphate 5: dihydroxyacetone phosphate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate (GADP) 6: GADP to D-1,3-bisphosphoglycerate 7: 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to 3-phosphoglycerate 8: Phosphoglycerate mutase to 2-phosphoglycerate. 9: 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate 10: phosphoenolpyruvate to pyruvate.
