What are the standard feeding guidelines for dogs and cats?

It is hard to say because it depends on the dog's weight and cat's size and what type of food you are feeding. The packaging always has guidelines on back.

It's best to feed them twice a day. Once in the morning when you wake up and eat breakfast yourself and once at dinner time around the time that you eat dinner. Feed them at times where you are going to be home to take your Dogs to the bathroom, as they tend to need to go after dinnertime.

What I find works with my dogs is dividing the amount of food into two different feeding times throughout the day. I usually feed them when I eat breakfast and once again when I eat supper. They are healthy and happy dogs, so it must be pretty good for them.

Age will be a determining factor in the feeding schedule as puppies and kittens require more frequent feeding than mature dogs and cats. Feed once a day when mature.
