Banks have the right to hold deposited funds until the check, or other instrument, clear the issuing lender. Depending on the amount of the draft and the funds in the despositer's account, the bank may hold the funds for 3 to 10 days at its discretion.

Checks are held for 7 business days. Generally, rules regarding holding checks are the same at most banks. Also, that is to clarify, 7 business days after you have deposited the checks. Most of the time, they get approved 3-4 days later, but as a formality, its a 7 day rule.
