Requirements vary from one law enforcement agency to another. Applicants are heavily screened and supervisor recommendations are given great weight.

You will have to take the courses required to become a police officer, probably put in your time and pay your dues on your department, and request duty as SWAT. Your department of choice can tell you the requirements, and prior military service is often a plus. You need to have a clean record and be in excellent physical condition.

You have to graduate with a criminal justice degree to begin with and then apply to become a member of a police department or criminal justice department of some type. You must take a test and complete a physical examination to become part of the team. There is an additional test to become SWAT.
