I just graduated from college and I recommend a 15 inch Macbook/pro (depending on his needs) handsdown. Get the Microsoft office software and he will be set with a super compatible, plug-and-play, no nonsense system. Plus, they have the best tech support, should he ever need it.

It depends on what he will be doing. For simply surfing the web, checking email and writing papers for school any basic laptop will do. I've only used Dell Inspiron laptops and have always been pleased with them. I'd recommend starting with a basic Dell laptop and using their customize it feature to get exactly what you want.

College kids are going to be working a lot from there laptops. Look for full sized laptops with 15 inch plus displays and full sized keyboards. They will be lugging them around so nothing over 10. lbs. A good warranty that covers damage to the LCD display, physical and waterdamage is a great idea. Long battery life is a plus.

It really depends on what the use will be. I would suggest going with a new Acer Aspire net book. The are light weight and quite powerful little laptops. The price is fairly low also.

The best laptop for you depends what you will be using your system for: Gaming, word processing, video editing? Your local computer stores should be able to help you.
