What are the reasons a dog would need an ultrasound?

My vet suggested one for my dog. I don't think she is pregnant, why else would she need one?

Your Vet could be concerned that she might have a kidney or gall stone, that she might have eaten a foreign object, or even looking for an internal tumor. Tests like these help to eliminate speculation and speed the proper remedy to a health problem.

Ultrasounds are used for diagnostic purposes to get a look inside your pet: they can help vets identify tumours, heart murmurs and cysts among other things.

There are a large number of reasons that a dog would need an ultrasound besides to detect pregnancy. Your veterinarian may want to look for tumors, bladder stones, or changes in the architecture of organs. You should ask her why she recommends it.

Ask your veterinarian why an ultrasound is necessary. That is the best source of information. Ultrasound, which is a great diagnostic tool, is used for many, many more things than to monitor a pregnancy. It is a non-invasive tool that allows abnormalities like tumors, injuries, swelling, displacement, foreign bodies, etc., to be seen.

Ultrasounds for pets represents an advanced way to screen them for a number of illnesses. Ultrasounds can show the health of your pet's joints, organs, and can also be used to detect possible tumors and cancerous cells. It may be expensive but can be very useful to limit threats to your pet's health.

Ultrasounds are used for a variety of medical diagnosis, not just pregnancy. The ultrasound is the cheapest way to see inside a living being as mri's and cat scans are quite expensive, and most vet offices don't have them. X-rays have a difficult time seeing organs and are best for bones etc.
