Maturity, dependability, compassion and intelligence are qualities that are favorable in anyone but especially in a spouse. Dependability is a must because it establishes trust which is necessary for a lasting relationship.

There are too many to list, but some of the more important ones are trust, loyalty, and compassion. Also, someone who is a good communicator, who can listen just as well as he can talk, as communication is the foundation of any relationship.

I believe a good spouse is a friend, someone you can laugh with, who cares about your well-being - and whose well-being you care about.
