Humid conditions suit these turtles best, therefore they should not be kept in a dry tank as they will dehydrate and could die. Soaking or spraying these animals daily is important if they are kept indoors. Strong heat should be avoided. Instead use a background heater which will be less severe.

The best thing for a three-toed box turtle is to have places for the turtle to hide. If there is any other animals with it make sure it has a place it can hide from it. Also having an outside tank is encouraged.
