A firefighter position is very popular. It is difficult to get a firefighter position in most states because there are so much people applying for the position. Your odds depends on how many have applied, and how well you do on the tests.

Great, if you can pass all of the requirements, live in a state or province which is hiring, and preferably, have an inside source.

This largely depends on where you apply for a job. Some areas are far more strict and have more applicants thus it is harder to get in.

Securing a position as a firefighter is about having what it takes to complete the training and pass probation. It depends, too, on city budgets and funding for positions.

It depends where you are. Some cities have a large number of openings. If you are fit enough and have a degree, your odds are good.
