The quintessential Roman landmark is the Colosseum. Additionally you should visit the Roman Forum, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain (throw a coin in it) and you should not miss Vatican City (St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel).

The Colosseum, officialy the Flavius amphitheatre, where gladiators, slaves and animals would fight to the death is the most popular attraction. The ellipse shape held 50,000 people with tiers of seating to allow for the perfect view from every seat. It had passage ways under the wooden arena floor for the animals and other staging purposes.
