There are several different strains of herpes. The two most common types are oral and genital herpes. These are virus caused. Oral herpes is better known as cold sores or fever blisters and are easily transmitted from person to person. You can have genital herpes for a long time before you get the sores.

You have simplex a and simplex b, this is a difference in the virus and where it rests. One is commonly seen on the genitals, other on the face region.
