Intra-uterine devices need only be placed and replaced every five to ten years. Depa Provera is a hormone injection that's good for 90 days. The vaginal ring is inserted once a month. Condoms, spermacide, sponges and diaphragms are used before sex. Sterilization works for life.

There are several alternatives to the pill. You can use the birth control patch, an IUD (intra-uterine device), the Depo-Provera shot, or all natural methods. A simple websearch or discussion with your doctor will lead you to the right contraceptive for your lifestyle.

If you can not remember to take the pill you might ask your doctor about taking an injection contraceptive. The injections offered last 3-6 months but can lead to weight gain.
