Gauge is a way to quantify the thickness of copper sheets or the diameter of copper wires. Gauges range from 0 to 40. Although it is counterintuitive, the smaller the number, the thicker the copper sheet and wider the diameter the copper wire.

There are six main designated tempers all with different and significant properties. You need to consider them all depending on the job that they are required for. If you go to a hardware store and explain your needs they will be able to show you examples.
