For the men's event, the discus has a weight of 2 kilograms (4 lb 7 oz). The women's event uses a discus with a weight of 1 kg (2 lb 3 oz). In United States high school track and field, boys throw a discus weighing 1. 616 kg (3 lb 9 oz) and the girls throw 1 kg (2. 2 lb).

The official weights of discus for IAAF events including world championships and the Olympics only varies between men and women. The weight for the men's event is 2 kilograms or 4 lb 7 oz, while for the women throw a discus slightly lighter which is 1 kg or the equivalent 2 lb 3 oz.

For adult men it is 2kg and adult women it is 1kg and the teenagers the boys throw 1. 6 kg and the girls 1kg these weights are subject to change from country to country and this is based upon the US Sports standard for measuring discus weights for the event.
