What are the differences and similarities of the leadership styles used by foodservice managers and supervisors?

There are many styles of leadership independent on industry with many labels and buzzwords. One example would be the autocratic vs. participant styles. The autocrat expects others to do as he or she says whereas the participant is generally "in the trenches". Both can be seen in military leadership.

Food service managers and supervisors have different audiences to consider. Food service managers see the big picture while the supervisors are closer to the work. Both managers and supervisors need people skills and good instincts on what sort of motivation their staff members need to do well in their jobs.
