DBMS/DataBase-Management-System components (according to some authors) are: Data dictionary; Data repository; Database engine; Forms generator; Query processor; Report writer; Other utility tools, & interface modules

A database management system can have any number of components, depending on what sort of system it is. However, it needs to have a way to organize data; a way to store it; and a way to retrieve it. Often other components, such as scripting in Microsoft Office or OpenOffice, are added as well.
