This breed is strong minded, can require quite a bit of training, and can be nippy particularly if not well socialized. This breed can make a good family pet if the family is able to do consistent training, keep the dog well groomed, and handle the need for companionship seen in this breed.

Tibetan Terriers are playful but smaller children may accidentally fall or pull on them. They're great guard dogs in the sense that they'll definitely let you know someone is there.

A Tibet Terrier is generally safe for children as they are known to be affectionate and dedicated to their owners. They are gentle with children if properly introduced but they are shy to strangers. They are brave, clever, energetic and fun to be with. They go along with other dogs and pets but some tends to be jealous.

Given that these double-coated dogs tend to be standoffish, stubborn, and prone to separation anxiety, they're generally not recommended for families with young children.
