That would be a glass aquarium with a snap on mesh lid. The rat will be protected from other household animals. He won't be able to climb the sides because the glass is slick. You will also need to clean the rats cage at least every other day but preferrably clean it everyday.

I have pet rats and i have a 3 tier cage by Habitat Defined! It rocks and my rats love it! I definately recommend this cage!

Never use aquariums without a topper! They do not have proper ventilation and give rats respiratory problems and it kills them.
