Avalon has some great spots for tent camping on the beach. The Washingtonian calls the beaches in Avalon the safest for swimming and also the best beach in New Jersey. Known for gentle surfs, wide beach, good lifeguards and natural dunes it is a "Don't Miss" spot to vacation.

How about the Ponderosa Campground? They've got beautiful beaches and some tree line buffering so you have a little bit of privacy. There are some really nice bath houses with hot water showers and a heated pool. It is a great place to go and have fun and relax.

  • Just more info: Island Beach Park is located on a narrow barrier island that is about 9. 5 miles between the Atlantic and Barnegat Inlet. It has sandy beaches, tidal marshes, dunes and maritime forest. I've been there a few times. You will absolutely love it if you visit.
