The ficus family is excellent as long as you keep them watered. Ficus doesn't have to mean common or ordinary. You can find unusual and attractive varieties online and special order them at your local plant store. Aralias are another great choice for low light, indoor locations. They can survive being dried out from time to time.

i would think that the best indoor tree for decoratring would be a fake tree and if not then i would chose something small like a ficus
