There are several ways to view this. Restorative dentisty is your own tooth, using all of the modern techniques to restore the tooth to as close to its original shape and function as possible. A crown accomplishes the same thing, however, it is NOT your own and can come loose.

Restorative dentistry does work out cheaper than having a crown. Repairing the tooth is better and if it can be restored to last a little longer then dentists prefer this than having to remove teeth. It is better to keep your own teeth as they pad out your face and keep you looking younger.

Restorative dentistry will bring out your smile. Crowns don't let as appealing as the latter option. When you get restorative dentistry, your teeth will look natural. It will look as if you have great teeth and you are still in very good health. Some people can tell a crown from a distance.

Restorative dentistry, such as fillings, are best used when there is only a small amount of damage to a tooth, such as a cavity. In situations where there is extensive damage to a tooth, like when a tooth is broken or a root canal is done, it is better to use a crown

Depending on how large the cavity is, a large restoration has greater potential for fracture of failure, where a crown is more sturdy but more costly.

In general you lose less of your actual tooth structure when you have a tooth restored. It is also easier to care for and keep clean. Crowns are also more expensive and can look a bit unnatural.

A crown is usally done on a tooth that is totally bomed out, that is the tooth either has a large cavity or a large filling. If the cavity is quite small and does not reqiure the loss of alot of tooth structure a restoration is the perferred procedure!

A restorative filling is a conservative way to restore a tooth however a crown is much more long term and alot more predictable. filling can break or crack over time, crowns last much longer and hard almost unbreakable. also its much harder to get decay underneath a crown rather than a filling.
