What are the average wedding photographer salaries?

I asked my friend who does photography well, but on the side to take pictures for my wedding in hopes of saving a bit of money. Well I think her price is outrageous, but when I brought it up, she was insulted and said it was already really low for the industry standard!

She is right. Wedding photographers are very expensive. Even a budget wedding photographer like your friend can cost around $1000. The average wedding photographer makes around $2,000 or $3,000 a wedding. Upscale photographers can cost in the range of $3,000 to $5,000, and it might even cost $10,000 or over for the best in the business.

It depends on how well known the photographer is and how much experience he or she has. You can expect to spend anywhere from $1,500 on a small package that doesn't come with many prints, to over $5,000. If your wedding is out of town, expect to pay more.
