What are suggestions for a 170 pound person wanting a shortboard?

My husband is around the same weight and he rides a shortboard. His boards range from 6 foot to six foot four inches. Be sure that the boards are not too thin as they will not be able to keep ypu afloat well and they will be too hard to paddle.

At 170 pounds you are at the 80tg percentile of average american men. Pretty much any shortboard will be a perfect fit for you. Go with what feels comfortable.

Personally I'd suggest the Al Merrick flyer. We're similar in weight, and I used that board as my first shortboard and I loved it. I still have it today. However, it's always about personal preference - try a few and see what you think fits you best.
