When inside a church, I use a fast lens (f/2.8 or faster) and I set my ISO somewhere between 640-1000. That way, I get natural looking photos without having to use the flash (a camera with good noise management like the 5DMarkII is recommended). If I have to use a flash, I bounce it off the ceiling using a Lightsphere.

You should have ample lighting in the wedding and when possible keep the light source to the rear or the camera. If your camera has a red eye reduction flash I would also enable it for use when taking the pictures. Make sure you have enough memory for taking multiples so you can make sure you have the perfect shot.

Choose your venue, whether inside or outside. Always have a backup plan and/or equipment for inevitable issues that may arise. Outside wedding pictures are amazing but require working with nature.

Subjects should be lit from the front, rather than having the sun behind their back causing them to be back-lit.
