Research over the past 10 years has shown that creatine a rate of 5-20 grams per day appears very safe and mostly side effect free. It may alter insulin levels, so be cautious if you are diabetic, hypoglycemic, or otherwise affected with blood sugar issues.

It could certainly be dangerous in large enough quantities but it's not a dangerous substance in particular. There is a lot of hype surrounding it.
