90% of the time, high creatine levels are due to renal insufficiency. When your kidneys do not function correctly, your blood is not being cleaned of toxins. There are very few other reasons such as dehydration, large intake of red meat, drug interactions and crush injuries.

Creatine is a product of a secondary level of metabolism. Typical metabolism is conducted through aerobic respiration, but if you are lacking carbohydrates in your diet your body will resort to other forms of metabolism that produce high creatine levels. Another reason may be inadequate nutrition coupled with frequent exercise.

Usually elevated creatinine levels mean your kidney is not working efficiently. They are not cleaning your blood properly. Or you could be dehydrated; not drinking enough water. Eating too much red meat could elevate it. Some drugs will cause a false reading. Also, any muscle injury can release creatinine.

some reasons for elevated creatine levels are often identified during investigation of other disorders in adult patients with hypertension, diabetes mellitus , anemia, renal insufficiency with abnormal findings on urinalysis, and in children who fail to thrive, feed poorly, or have recurrent vomiting, polyuria or episodes of dehydration.
