Look for stocks in solid companies that allow you to buy very few shares. This reduces the price you have to pay for the shares you buy, versus stocks that require lots of 100 or more. Look into onestock or oneshare for options.

Most stocks out now are undervalued, so go buy them. Some of them include revlon, which has taken a huge hit. Also reits.

Some in expensive stocks for long term would probably be, Bank of America (BAC), General Electric (GE), Citibank (C), J. M. Smuckers (SJM), Apple (AAPL), and Kraft (KFT). The food ones on this list are food. The bank stocks and GE are low now, and AAPL is just a strong company.

There are many well known companies such as Coca-Cola, Walmart, Exxon-Mobile, General Electric, Ford which have dividend reinvestment programs, so you can buy and hold.

Most blue chip stocks cost more than small cap stocks. The best way to invest in these companies is to do automatic purchases with an online brokerage.

I can't suggest any specific names, since it needs a deep research, but I advice you using ETFs for long term investing, since they offer good diversification and low costs.
