I would strongly recommend any of William Shakespeare's sonnets, especially the ones dedicated to the "young man," who was probably the son of one of Shakespeare's patrons. To be specific, Sonnet forty-four deals with "absence makes the heart grow fonder" and Sonnet 18 compares one's love to a summer's day.

Pablo Neruda's 100 Love Sonnets are beautiful. You might also look at Shakespeare's sonnets-- the sonnet is the most traditional of love poems. If you are looking for something less conventional, try e.e. cummings or Nikki Giovanni.

'Sonnet #43, From the Portuguese' by Elizabeth Browning, 'Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day?' by Shakespeare and 'She Walks in Beauty' by Lord Byron are wonderful love poems.
