What are some good questions to ask 12-year-olds?

Always try to find out what they are doing. This age can be troublesome as they are very curious and are eager to try things. Ask them how school is going and what they are doing with thier friends. Don't just ask yes and no questions though. You should always ask them to elaborate and make sure you sound interested.

As a parent it is important to know your child. 12 year old children are starting to get into that "experimental" phase with regards sex and drug related topics. Why not ask your 12 year old how much they know about this topic, keeping the dialogue open is important.

Twelve-year-olds are still preteens, and they are entering a stage where they are very self-absorbed. If you want to ask them questions, ask them questions about themselves- although nothing too personal. Ask about their day at school, that teacher they hate, how the tryouts for the basketball team are going. Don't ask if they have a crush on anybody.
