Good science experiments for the age group include boiling red cabbage and using the colored juice as a homemade acid-base indicator. Also growing brassica, one of the fastest growing plants. Make a worm bin, get red-wrigglers () and cardboard and feed them vegetable scraps. Show them where their food comes from.

Make a volcano out of baking soda and vinegar. It's easy and fun. For something a that's little more complex, try lighting a bulb with a potato suspended in water.
