Ask the attendees for a short summary of the plot, and to describe the personalities of the major characters. Additionally, ask them about the emotional impact of key passages in the book. You should also ask if the book made them want to read more by the same author.

Ask open-ended questions that can't be answered with a yes or no. Some examples would be, "What language moved you?" "What did you learn from character X's experience?" Use the members' answers to generate more questions; this, more than anything else, will generate a conversation rather than a question and answer session.

What was your favorite character and why? Did a particular event in the book influence the outcome of the book? Where does the story take place and would the story had been different if set in another location? Were the characters realistic in the book? What characters were easy to identify with?

Ask the group what their favorite part about the book was, and what they think will happen next in the story.
