You can easily make a robot costume using boxes and foil. Tramps, gypsies, and anything you can imagine costume clothes can be bought at rummage sales. All you would need to buy extra would be make up.

One year, I wore oversized green tshirt and unwound a metal hanger into a circle to put in the bottom of the shirt. Add cheap ornaments and garland on shirt. Tie wrapped boxes on bottom with fishing line, and top off with a star on a headband and brown pants.

Get a big box. Place strips of light blue construction paper on it. Cut out arm, leg, and head holes. Glue all sorts of things, buttons and leavers, and have a large tube coming from the top and you have the center inside core of the "Tardis" from "Doctor Who"

I have seen people be a "loofa" like you use in the shower by making a puff ball costume out of toole from a fabric store and putting a loop detail on their head.
