There are so many uses in varying situations, but first acquaint yourself with the types of hands and their second names. For example, a pair of Queens = 2 ladies, 2 aces = bullets; a straight numbered 10 through ace is called out as Broadway; when you have two pair - including aces - call it Aces up.

At the beginning, you "ante" up your money, if you don't like your hand you "fold" to avoid matching any raises. The hands you can get are: a pair, 2 pair, full house (2 of 1 kind, 3 of another), straight, flush (all same suit), straight flush, royal flush is the best (10, J, Q, K, Ace of same suit)

Loose player = plays weak hands Maniac = the loosest Tight = plays with only premium hands Nit = really tight Solid = plays good poker Broadway = an ace high straight AA = American Airlines AK = Anna Kournikova (they both look good, but don't really do anything) 9 5 = Dolly Parton (from the movie "9-5")

This list could go on forever but lets keep it simple. You can use check, fold, bluff, raise, call, hole cards, river, and flop. It really will depend on what your playing. Just turn on the tv and watch some texas hold em tournaments.
