You can apply for an energy saving grant to convert your ordinary electricity into solar power. You can also apply for a grant to insulate your attic to conserve energy.

If you're low income home weatherization is available, you need to see what your state allows. There are also some available for installing solar paneling, or using wind or hydro power.

There are tax breaks for purchasing Energy Star appliances. You can apply to your city or county for grants to install insulation, storm windows, or more energy efficient siding; these grants are usually targeted to the poor or elderly (over 65).

There are many energy-saving grants that have recently been offered through the government. These grants will benefit homeowners who choose to take advantage of them by replacing or installing appliances (dishwashers, washer machines, dryers, ranges, refridgerators, etc.), windows, doors, garage doors, heating and cooling systems and such with more energy efficient products.
